Research projects:

Author of more than 200 scientific publications, he has led and participated in national and international projects focused on the treatment of affective disorders, including the use of psychoeducational interventions, personalised exercise and digital solutions. He is particularly noted for his role as author in the development of group psychoeducational intervention for patients with bipolar disorder, currently considered the first-choice psychological treatment for this disorder. This intervention has been translated into eight languages and subsequently adapted into a mobile application (SIMPLe). He recently led the project Personalised exercise prescription: the efficiency of transdisciplinary blended intervention in depressive symptoms (IDEA), and currently coordinates the 3D Project (Les Dones es Deslliuren de la Depressió), an initiative focused on the development and implementation of a digital intervention for the treatment of depressive symptoms in women.

Her research work is mainly focused on advancing mental health interventions through innovative approaches. Her main areas of work include:

• Applied clinical research aimed at optimising therapeutic outcomes in populations with depressive symptoms.

Dr. Natalia Angarita-Osorio

Research projects:
Her line of research focuses on the study of barriers and motivation towards physical activity, as well as their impact on the response to rehabilitation treatments. She has collaborated on studies of non-pharmacological interventions for the treatment of mood disorders and suicide prevention. She has also participated in the design and implementation of exercise-based interventions for the treatment of depressive symptoms. Previously, she collaborated on projects related to the use of third-generation therapies for the treatment of fibromyalgia and health promotion in older people.

Dr. Livia Terraneo

Research projects:
She contributed to the development of the Les Dones es Deslliuren de la Depressió (3D) Project during her medical degree thesis. She is currently collaborating in the implementation of the intervention’s randomized controlled trial (RCT), supporting its operational and clinical execution. She plans to specialize in psychiatry, and her research interests include emerging frontiers in psychiatric treatment (such as psychedelic- and other psychoactive-assisted therapies), as well as gender differences in the etiology and treatment of mental disorders.

Gender differences in mental disorders, women’s mental health, personalized and gender-sensitive interventions, psychedelic- and psychoactive-assisted therapies.

Dr. Pilar Alvarez

Education:
Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (University of Oviedo), specialist in Psychiatry via MIR (Bellvitge University Hospital) and Doctorate in Medicine (University of Barcelona).

Research projects:
Her main line of research focuses on better understanding depression and identifying biological markers that will advance its diagnosis and treatment. This multidisciplinary research combines clinical studies with analyses of brain samples and animal models to explore the mechanisms involved in the disease. In two of her projects (“Study of the activation status of the Nrf2 factor in primary pro-neuron cultures from the olfactory epithelium in Major Depressive Disorder” and “Implication of male foetal microchimerism in female depression: translational studies in women and in an animal model”), she has taken on the role of principal investigator, leading lines of research aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of this disorder. Among her most recent projects, she is investigating foetal microchimerism in the context of female depression, a disorder that affects approximately twice as many women as men. She has also participated in various research projects focused on depression and schizophrenia.

Research projects:
She is currently part of the Les Dones es Deslliuren de la Depressió (3D) Project, a digital intervention aimed at women with depressive symptoms. Her work focuses on developing and adapting the program’s clinical content, creating audiovisual materials, and designing and coordinating focus groups.

Research interests:
Digital interventions with a gender perspective, participatory research (co-creation) and biopsychosocial approaches for health prevention and promotion.
